Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has called for a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the death of Mr Adeda Ekwevugbe, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Dafinone, in a statement, described the death of the public servant as “deeply troubling,” insisting that all circumstances surrounding the incident must be fully investigated to provide answers to his family, colleagues and the public.
He commiserated with the Ekwevugbe family of Ughelli Kingdom, describing the deceased as a dedicated public servant whose death had left the community and his colleagues in grief.
The senator acknowledged the steps taken by the Delta State Government, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to constitute an Administrative Panel of Inquiry into the incident, as well as the ongoing investigation by the Delta State Police Command.
He urged the people of Ughelli Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, civil servants and other concerned Deltans to remain calm and allow the investigations to proceed without interference.
Dafinone, however, insisted that the investigation must be allowed to follow the evidence, declaring that there should be “no cover-up, no sacred cows” and no attempt to shield anyone found culpable.
“Anyone found responsible must face the full weight of the law. Justice for Mr Adeda Ekwevugbe must not only be done; it must be seen to be done,” he said.
The senator pledged to continue monitoring developments surrounding the incident and to work with relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that the circumstances of Ekwevugbe’s death are established and justice pursued.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and strength for his family, friends, colleagues and the entire Ughelli Kingdom to bear the loss.
